Holy Fire is our 27-minute documentary that tells the story of the Holy Fire ceremony in Jerusalem’s Church of the Resurrection, the Holy Sepulchre, and the people who worship, serve and live there.
Few moments are more vivid in the Church of the Resurrection than the Holy Fire ceremony on Holy Saturday. This is the day in Eastern traditions that Christians celebrate Jesus’ triumph over death in an ancient ceremony where the Greek Orthodox and Armenian Patriarchs emerge from the tomb with fire to light worshipers’ candles. The flame is taken from the church in Jerusalem to Bethlehem, and on to Greece and Eastern Europe.
To walk through the doors of the Church of the Resurrection is to be reminded that we are part of over two thousand years of history and a faith that spans the globe. The church is shared by 6 Christian denominations and situated at the heart of Jerusalem’s Christian minority. This film takes us to the Holy Fire ceremony at the Holy Sepulchre, introducing us to the local Christian communities who serve and worship there.
